24 Port Switch

Welcome to our website, Find information and best prices on all 24 port switch devices, Models that contain everything, but the server, in one box.

A 24 port switch is needed for medium to large size local area networks. A local area network, otherwise known as LAN, typically consists of a router that connects to some sort of broadband service and the network switches that connect all of this. The difference between a small office/home office application and a mid to large size application is the number of ports and the number and type of managed switches. With a mid to large sized LAN you also have options as to the complexity of the device. Whether it is 2 layer, 3,4 or 7 layer there are always more choices involved with a larger system. Other considerations will be the form factor and in some instances the configuration options.

A typical small home office LAN is a simple converged device that contains the router and all the switches in one small box. This would then connect to the modem. In a larger LAN set up the switches would connect to the router which would connect to a server that connects to the Internet through a high-speed router or a T-1 data connection. The router can also be integrated as well. With a 24 port switch there are models that contain everything, but the server, in one box. Most switches now operate as what is called a multi-layer switch. You would be hard-pressed to find a switch of any type or size that is simply a single layer these days. With software even a single layer switch can be used as a two or three layer switch.

With a 24 port ethernet switch you have a lot of options. Many 24 port switches can be stacked in order to achieve greater capacity. This is where you need to know about the form factor. Is your network equipment in a rack if so you need to make sure that your components are able to fit into the rack. If you don’t already have a rack set up then you may want to use an ethernet switch that can stand alone or hang on the wall out of the way. If your business is growing really rapidly then you need to consider purchasing a system that is both stackable and easy to manage. The Linksys SR 224 — 24 port 10/100 switch is an excellent entry level 24 port switch. Net gear also makes a quality 24 port network switch. The FS 726T is an affordable high quality 24 port network switch with a few extra enhancements and simple browser-based management. And, of course, D-Link is in the same game and they make a level 3 switch, the DGS-3626, that should fulfill any small to medium-sized businesses needs. It is stackable up to 12 units which would give you 144 ports.

Some of the features you want to look for include the following:
LED indicators for port activity
link speed and duplex settings
Mac filtering
Port mirroring
ease of set up
ease of management
support
reliability

Unless you employ a full-time IT technician I would stay away from the high-end, high-performance units. These will require someone that knows a lot about setting up networks and someone to manage the system. Also be aware that some 24 port switches require your system to be running Windows in order to set up. If you are running a Linux setup you want to make sure you have the capability to set up any switch you may purchase. There are some great products out there that areĀ  fantastic and allow you to expand as fast as you can grow your business. Go check them out.
